We are floor sanding & refinishing specialists
See our process in action, from start to finish
Clear the room
We will sweep the floor and make any necessary repairs – assess any areas that need particular attention or are more damaged than most – heavy wear areas like the entrance and threshold of this room shown here are a good example of typical heavy wear. These areas are sanded with a coarse grit paper first.
First sanding
Once all rooms are cleared and all floors are repaired and clean we begin the floor sanding. We will do multiple passes with each grade of sanding paper using an increasingly fine sanding belt to make sure that there are no sanding marks and the finish is smooth. Once we have finished with the belt sander it is now time to move onto the edge sander, which sands around the perimeter of the room where the belt sander cannot reach.
Details matter
With all of the main areas of floor sanded down to a point where we are happy, we will then use our smaller detail sanders to get into the harder to reach nooks and crannies. Lastly, our large fine sander comes out. This machine is a circular sander rather than a belt which means that it leaves a perfectly flat and smooth finish with no unwanted scoring.
Filling, buffing and lacquering
Once all the floor sanding has been done, we fill any gaps with a mixture of the sawdust and wood filler, so that any of these final repairs are indistinguishable from the final finish. Once the filler is dry we will give the floor a final sand to clean filler residue from the surface ready for lacquering. On this project this customer requested a matte sheen finish and we applied multiple coats allowing for suitable dry time between coats.
The final finish – a fully restored wooden floor
The final finish restored this 100 year old parquet floor to it’s former glory. Light, smooth and with a beautiful matte sheen. Another happy customer.
Before and after
Before we started this project this floor was heavily worn and damaged in some high wear areas. Here are some before and after images that really show what we are capable of bring back to life. Yes, these images are the same parts of the same floor!
